It is not so long when Linus Torvalds announced first release of Linux Kernel 4.14. Linus Torvalds now announces second RC of Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS, a day before expected with various improvements and updates.
” This has been an interesting merge window. It’s not actually all that unusual in size. I think it’s shaping to be a pretty regular release after 4.13″, wrote Torvalds on the Linux Kernel mailing lists
” The only unusual thing worth noting here is that the security subsystem pull request that came in during the merge window got rejected due to problems, and so RC2 ends up with most of that security pull having been merged in independent pieces instead”.
Various significant changes are done in this release which includes updated drivers, updated networking, improvements to x86, ARM, power PC, PA-RISC, MIPS and hardware architectures.
Torvalds says- “There’s change all over”, and so it is very much clear that from documentation to updated file system to architecture updates it is not a small release. This release has implemented various core new functionalities.
Final release of Linux Kernel is expected in November
As per the updates Linux Kernel 4.14 is surely a big release. According to Linus Torvalds Mailing-list announcements, bunch of improvements and updates have been landed in this release. Linux Kernel 4.14 can be downloaded from kernel.org but I would suggest to wait for the stable release.
If everything goes well with this development cycle as expected, final release of Linux kernel 4.14 LTS is expected to be delivered in early November or mid-November.The releasing dates are either 5th November(if it gets the regular seven RCs) or 12th November(if it gets eight RCs). As per the final release third RC is coming on October 1 which will be the next LTS(Long Term Support) version. another stable Linux version 4.31.1 is also available for production .
